Serdaxin is Rexahn’s lead CNS therapeutic drug currently in clinical development for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
Serdaxin works as a dual release enhancer of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, and opens a new class of therapeutics – SERDA (serotonin-dopamine) – enhancer.
In a Phase IIa proof of concept study, Serdaxin demonstrated significantly improved response and remission rates for severely depressed patients, safety profile, and compliance.
A 300 patients Phase IIb trial is on-going and preliminary results are expected in Q4, 2011. The study design features innovative approaches for reducing placebo effect, which was recommended by leading industry Key Opinion Leaders who are part of Rexahn’s Scientific Advisory Board.
