Depression remains one of the leading disease conditions with prevalence at 6.4% of the population (16.5 million estimated persons in the US)1. It ranks 2nd largest therapeutic class in the US by prescription in 20102. WHO estimates that by 2030 Depression will be the single biggest burden of disease3 out of all medical conditions.
Even with the availability of a plethora of anti-depressants, two-thirds of patients achieve partial or no remission of their symptoms4.

Although the current re-uptake inhibiting anti-depressants tolerate better than earlier therapies, significant adverse reactions such as sexual dysfunction, insomnia and weight gain significantly affect compliance among patients. Additional problem with the current anti-depressants is their slow onset of action, requiring at least 6 weeks of treatment to obtain efficacy.
Serdaxin exhibits the potential to address these unmet medical needs in depression with a new mechanism of action that addresses both a negative mood state and loss of positive mood state.
